EPIRUS FOOD WEB DESIGN 2023
The Epirus Food project was born from an aspiring development program initiated by the Region of Epirus. It’s part of a joint effort between experts from various fields to accelerate the advance of Epirotic tourism through the region’s rich, time-honoured culinary culture. The people leading that effort trusted us with two essential elements of their strategy: the project’s brand and website. The end goal was to paint Epirus as a unique destination for gastronomy lovers and an overall wholesome experience for adventurous travelers.
The challenge was dual. First, we had to build a brand encompassing the heart and soul of the Epirotic land and its living traditions. Then, design a website that offers a compelling digital journey across Epirus—its multifaceted landscape, fascinating histories, and age-long local gastronomies. Our solution was to craft a brand experience that elegantly celebrates the region’s culinary heritage in a modern, cutting-edge manner: stylish, functional, and user-friendly.
We began with a minimal logo incorporating two iconic elements of the Epirotic identity: the timeless arched stone bridge and the traditional wood-fired oven. Next, we worked on the Epirus Food website. We implemented a content-first UX-oriented methodology, starting from the ground up with the information architecture and content structure. Every piece of content was written hand in hand with the design process to create a seamless and captivating user experience that fully serves the project’s goals.
For the website design, we combined evocative Epirus-inspired images with a colour palette of earthy, dark hues that blend with the narrative to establish an intriguing atmosphere. We wanted to transport visitors into the stark Epirotic country in a faraway time when folks began their culinary endeavors in the dark, cold hours before dawn. Drawing inspiration from the logo design, we created minimal icons representing each broader food category in the website’s traditional recipe book. Finally, we made the Epirus Food website fully responsive, offering the same superior user experience on any desktop and mobile device.
